Most accounting software gets judged by how much it can do. We built TxBilling to be judged by something else: whether a shop owner with no accounting background can use it without help. Here's why.
OPERION started in 2007 as a custom software and digital transformation house — building systems for other businesses, not billing tools. Somewhere along the way, we ran into a problem that had nothing to do with ambition and everything to do with frustration: the accounting software available to us assumed we already understood accounting.
We didn't, particularly. We just wanted to sell something, issue an invoice, get paid, and know who still owed us money. So we built a simple internal billing tool with one design rule: remove complexity, don't add features.
We hadn't planned to sell the tool. But people who saw us using it — other small business owners, mostly — asked if they could use it too. When Malaysia's e-Invoice mandate arrived through LHDN's MyInvois system, that internal tool evolved into TxBilling: the same simplicity, with compliance built in from day one instead of bolted on afterward.
Every accounting software company gets requested to add module after module — multi-currency, advanced job costing, complex approval chains. Some of those requests are reasonable. Most of them are reasonable for accountants, not for the shop owner, freelancer, or tuition centre operator we actually built this for.
Every feature we add makes the product marginally more powerful and marginally harder to learn. For an enterprise accounting team, that trade is fine. For someone running a business alone or with one or two staff, it isn't. So our filter for new features isn't "can we build this" — it's "does this make a non-accountant's day simpler."
Nobody wakes up excited about invoicing software. They wake up worried about an LHDN penalty, a confused staff member, or a customer chasing them for an e-Invoice they don't know how to issue. TxBilling sells confidence and compliance. The software is just how we deliver it — onboarding in about 30 minutes, priced from RM360/year so it's actually affordable for a one-person business, and built so that if you can use WhatsApp, you can use TxBilling.
This is worth saying plainly: TxBilling is not positioned to replace an accountant, and we don't want it to. We handle the day-to-day — billing, e-Invoice submission, customer records — and export clean data your accountant can use for closing and tax filing. Two different jobs, done by the tools best suited to each.
